Jeffrey Altergott – Entertainment 2023

Jeffrey Altergott was born and raised within earshot of the sprawling Chicago music scene and was a player in its ranks for over 25 years. He began as half of the folk duo, Carnival of Faith which released two indie albums in the early 1990’s. Jeff then began his solo career during which he released five albums and performed in shows as far West as Salt Lake City and as far East as Boston. At a crossroads in 2012, he joined the retro-rock band Roxy Swain as their bass player and songwriting collaborator. The group released two records with critical acclaim during his tenure. A move to California in 2016 and the Covid years gave Jeff time to rediscover his songbook and a love of performing. He is planning new music and live performances in 2023. Altergott has garnered high praise for his earlier works from the likes of WXRT-FM deejay Richard Milne as a “Local Anesthetic” capsule pick, the Chicago Reader, the Chicago Tribune and LinuxTag – which handpicked the title track of Icarus Grounded for its first OpenSource music compilation CD, released in Europe. Jeff’s fourth album, Don’t Be a Stranger (2007), included the song “Thank You” – featured on the soundtrack of the award-winning movie BearCity (2010). His last full-length solo release, Balloons (2009), contains the Billboard World Song Contest winning track, “Don’t Prove Me Right”.
