Between the Worlds maintains a scholarship fund which provides reduced registration costs for gay, bi and transgender men who otherwise could not attend the gathering. Scholarship recipients are selected based on an essay on the topic of what they hope to get out of Between the Worlds. They also give back to the community by performing volunteer work during the gathering.
The scholarship fund is funded by the fees paid by merchants to vend at Between the Worlds and generous contributions by members of the Between the Worlds community.
The scholarship fund was renamed the "Ganesha Memorial Scholarship Fund" in 2005 in memory of Crystal Bear, a beloved member of the Between the Worlds community, who passed beyond the veil in 2004. Ganesha was a patron deity of Crystal Bear and as the "remover of obstacles" it seems appropriate that this fund be named after him.
